One of the more unpleasant and time consuming tasks with tracked equipment is to keeping it clean. One of the toughest and messiest areas to clean is the undercarriage. Keeping the undercarriage clean can lead to increased longevity of the undercarriage which is the largest single cost of tracked vehicle maintenance and one of the toughest parts to find for older models.
One good way to clean it out is to use the common garden sprinkler. The sprinkler type that you are interested in are the rotary type that you shove into the ground to hold in place. You place the sprinkler close enough to the tracks so that spray of water will hit the underneath the top of the tracks. The sprinklers head motion is limited to just cover the full length of the track. Turn on the water full blast and in several hours the dirt and crud will be virtually washed away. If it is especially bad you dive the machine ½ track forward and continue the process.
