IHC WFourklift; fabricated from an IHC W4 and salvaged
mast. The
seat has been put on top of the gas tank that has been shortened and
moved closer to the motor to give more room on the operators platform,
this caused the air cleaner to loose its place under the hood. A Saginaw
power steering set up is used with an intermediate pitman arm to be able
to channel the drag link through the tight pathway under the
floorboards. To strengthen the frame and to better mount the mast and
counter weight/oil tank, 4x4x3/8 inch "H" beam was used, as you
can see
by the picture. The tough part here, was the double transition just
above the step. All added components are bolted to existing bolt holes
on the tractor. Clutch and brake pedals have been modified and properly
repositioned. Transmission gears have been redirected by placing the
crown gear on the opposite side of the pinion to accomplish this. This
part had its own "special" moments. The grapple is a portion of
salvage
from an old steel wheeled tractor. The mast must have originally been used
in a warehouse application, there was only three inches of ground
clearance, not acceptable in an outdoor situation. To remedy this I
added eight inches of 1 1/4 x 6" flat stock to the forks which is
noticeable in the front profile picture.
All welding was done with an Airco 225 amp line
welder, 20% duty
cycle, this in itself was quit a challenge! Fabrication time spanned
about two years, under the "Shade Tree", in my spare time.
